Imola approaches for Kyle Ryde and team Ranieri Med

As the World Suersport series heads south to Italy and the beautiful city of Bologna, Imola approaches for Kyle Ryde and team Ranieri Med.

Home to Imola

Round 5 promises to be a special occasion for Kyle and team Ranieri Med SC Racing, not only does the series reach the Italian teams beautiful country for the first time, The grand old circuit at Imola is just a stones throw from the teams base in Bologna.

Imola is known the world over as a centre of racing and engineering excellence with some of the highest profile makers of exotic, Italian metal based nearby, big names like Ferrari, Ducati, Lamborghini and Maserati all base themselves here and have beautiful automotive museums in the Bologna area.

Trust in Imola

The mighty Imola circuit is one that demands respect but it’s also a circuit that favours a brave and courageous riding style, with this in mind, it’s hoped that Kyle can produce a performance which matches that of his manager Johnny Rea as Rea is the most successful rider at this track along with Carlos Checa.

It will be interesting to see if Kyle and the team can build on the set up improvements that were found late on Saturday evening at the last round in Assen. Hopefully Kyle and Team Ranieri Med SC Racing can benefit from a little local knowledge and move up into a top 10 finish this weekend.

Imola isn’t totally new to Kyle as he raced here in 2013 on a moto3 Honda in the Italian CIV championship as a wild card.

Wet again?

This weekend in Imola promises to be something of a mixed bag when it comes to the weather with Friday and Saturday being the better of the 3 days of racing. Friday will see highs of 18C with light winds and broken cloud and it’s much the same on Satuday albeit with slightly warmer temperatures.

Sunday is where things get interesting…. In what’s become a recurring theme in World Supersport this season, it looks like the race on Sunday is going to be a wet one. With Kyles race scheduled to start 10:20am UK time there’s a more than 50% chance of the race being a wet one. Will this play into Kyles hands? That remains to be seen but we did see a big improvement in the wet at Assen, so hopefully Kyle can bring some of that form with him into this latest race.

Don’t miss any action

Kyle first takes to the Imola track on Friday morning at 10:30 am for the first of the days free practice sessions. The second of these hour long practice sessions comes just after Lunch at 13:45, Unfortunately there’s no TV live coverage of Fridays action but you can keep up with progress by downloading the free WSBK app to see the live timing and interactive circuit map.

Saturday morning gets underway for Kyle at 08:15 am UK time with a 15 minute free practice session and just a couple of hours later we see the Superpole 1 and Superpole 2 races at 10:30 and 10:55 respectively. Hopefully Kyle can force his way into Superpole 1 in practice to give himself a better starting position for Sundays race.

Sunday sees a quick 15 minute warm up at 8am UK time before the feature race of the Supersport weekend gets underway at 10:20am. Fingers crossed we’ll see some more Championship points by the time this weekend is over.
