The final round of the Supersport world championship got underway today at Losail in Qatar.

Kyle lights up Losail

After the encouraging results achieved two weeks ago at Jerez in Spain, the Schmidt Racing Team and Kyle were out on the Doha track today, ready to confirm the quality of the work carried out on their Kawasaki ZX-6R and adapt the bike to the track. This is Ryde’s first visit to the track and it is also the first time he’s riding under artificial lighting, in that the practices and race at Losail take place at night.

In the first free practice session, the English rider had some difficulties and closed twenty-first with a time of 2’06”430. In the second and last timed practice, the technicians on Robert Balogh’s team were able to solve the problem that slowed Kyle earlier in the day.

The young Schmidt Racing Team rider lowered his time by more than three seconds (2’03”239), earning tenth place and therefore direct access to Superpole2, which will take place tomorrow evening on the Qatari track.

Robert Balogh – Team Manager:

“I’m really pleased with today’s work. Kyle and my team have given me a great birthday present! We’re in the top ten, even though the first session came with its problems, which we quickly resolved”.

“The team has worked well and Kyle has done a great job. Considering that he rode this track for the first time today, it’s very possible that he’ll be able to improve further tomorrow and so we have high expectations for the weekend”.

Kyle Ryde:

“It’s been a positive day and I’m pleased to have gained direct entry to SP2. This morning we had some gearing issues, which made practice tricky for me, but the team did a fantastic job and the bike was near perfect in session two.”

“I improved my time by more than three seconds and I’m really happy with tenth. The track is new to me, but I’m getting used to it and am confident we can go well again tomorrow”.
