Ryde storms the Worlds!
Nottinghamshire’s Motorcycle Champion ‘Kyle Ryde’ has taken the World by storm at the 6th round of the World Superbike Championship. Kyle was offered a ‘Wild-card’ entry into the Support series of the World Supersport Class, a similar series to which he is competing in the British Championship.
Kyle was up against some of the best riders in the world in this field and for the him to be the youngest ever rider to participate in this series, this was going to prove some achievement, but as ever Kyle rose to the challenge along with the Derbyshire based CF Motorsports ‘Pazedays Trackdays’ Team, they proved to be a formidable force to be reckoned with over the weekends proceedings.
Friday and Saturdays free practice saw Kyle setting his bench mark by achieving some incredible lap times and breaking his previous best at the Donington circuit to place him in some consistent 2nd & 3rd places.
Qualifying came in the afternoon and again Kyle was on the boil and set a good early pace in which was to take him to a secure 2nd place on the grid for tomorrow’s race, however due to the extreme pressure that Kyle placed on these front runners, it was the experienced Turkish rider Kenan Sofuoglu who had dominated most of the qualifying session, came out towards the end of the session to eventually better his own outright circuit best lap that he set earlier in the weekend, he went onto post the fastest ever WSS lap of the 2.5 mile Donington circuit, lapping in a time of 1.29.925s. Completing row one alongside Kyle will be Frenchman Jules Cluzel.
Starting from pole position, Sofuoglu to an early lead but was eventually overhauled by his French rival Jules Cluzel, who in turn for the first part of the race was put under pressure by Kyle and this proceeded for a few laps until the pack settled down. Sofuoglu managed to claw back his leading position whilst Kyle battled with Cluzel to even take 2nd place at one point. Eventually the two more experienced World Supersport riders and there semi factory machines were able to pull away from Kyle, who was now being caught by the Italian rider Zanetti on the exotic MV Agusta machine, yet another semi-factory team, this was to be some battle for such a small local team against the might of the manufacturers.
This leading Quartet broke away from the following pack and this became personal battles between the front two of Sofuoglo and Cluzel, whilst Young Kyle had to really turn the wick up to break the tow of Zanetti, who towards the end almost looked like he had the 3rd place on the podium in the bag. However; what Zanetti did do, was to under estimate this youngsters determination to climb on those steps with the best in the World. So with the huge crowd on their feet, Kyle fought aggressively in order to climb onto that last step of the podium in 3rd place ahead of Zanetti, fighting until the end with this hard charging Italian racer.
Kyle in a very determined mood!
