Cloudy skies and warm temperatures at the Misano World Circuit for the eighth round of the FIM World Supersport Championship.
Due to the numerous technical problems experienced in practice and Superpole, the two Schmidt Racing Team riders, Nico Terol and Kyle Ryde lined up, respectively, on rows eight and eleven of the starting grid.
Ryde made a strong start from row eleven and was climbing up the timesheets when an engine problem emerged, preventing him from going any further than twenty-third place.
The next round of the Supersport World Championship will take place over the weekend of 16-18 September at the Lausitzring in Germany.
Robert Balogh – Team Manager:
“On the one hand I’m totally unsatisfied with how things have gone here in Misano, but on the other hand I’m pleased because we are working towards our future. We will interrupt our relationship with MV and I’m sure that we can get back to being competitive when the championship resumes after the summer break.
Today, as ever, our riders and technicians have done their best, but these results clearly do not reflect our abilities.”
“The team has done all it could, but the bike prevented me from scoring a better result. I had both chassis and engine issues. It would slip into neutral and the engine brake wasn’t working well. A weekend to forget. I’m angry because I know we can do a lot more and hope that, in the future, we can express our full potential.”
“Today’s race went a little better than the practices. We made some more changes to the bike and I felt more confident with it. I made a decent start and set my personal best lap of the weekend.”
“After maybe five or six good laps I think a gasket broke and I had oil all over my boot, meaning it was slippery and I couldn’t change gear easily so I gradually went backwards. Better luck next time…”
